But arent changes being made on a regular basis at present?
Turkish Law states that permanent residents must have a resident permit, despite what any ex-pat feels they are entitled to.
The loop holes are being closed gradually-as seen in buying/selling vehicles recently.
Its not up to ex pats to decide which law suits them is it?

I agree Teresa.

I do wonder if the problem is that British ex-pats in Turkey are too used to seeing ex-pats from other countries ariving in Britain and, after making a fuss, getting the laws of the country changed to suit them!

Interesting system here, in as much as, there are no free rides, no courtesy housing, no instant job offers (or money if you can't find a job).

Protectionist - - - -Yes!

I wonder how many ex-pats from the U.K. might still be living there if the U.K. was not totally subserviant to the European court and weighed under by political correct-ness?

For one you wont be able to apply for Citizenship which you said you were going to .
And I believe the Rules regarding the 90 Day Tourist Visa is changing this year .When this happens you will only be allowed to stay in Turkey 90 days in every 180 Days so anybody living there on a Permanant wont have an option but to get a Residents Visa .

Teddy
Yes there are Issues to Living and things we arnt happy about in the UK :o But Lots of Expats living in Turkey are Oblivious to the Turkish Problems which by far outweigh the UK ones as they Cant speak the Lingo .
So they are content living in LA la Land with the Rose Coloured Glasses on :D Ann

Hi Alec,

It seems that events have answered your origional post!

Sadly you will have to get a stamp when you return and then start again with your residency.

Nice house - good luck with the sale.

I have to say I think Teddy's right about needing a resi permit to be buried here.

When I buried my Dad here they wanted to see his resi permit. That was 2002.

Someone on a tourist visit - ie a tourist on holiday- would automatically be shipped home for burial by their holiday company or at least have travel ins to cover the costs.

And why would a tourist want to be buried here anyway???

Only people that live here- residents- would want to be buried here.
And a resident would have a residence permit, wouldn't they????

You can't have it all ways !!!!!

Oh yes you can, our good freind David died in Altinkum last week RIP and on the Friday he was buried near the Temple of Apollo. David and his lovely wife Anne have done the visa runs with us over the last year and David would have been due to renew with us again in 2 weeks time, so yes David was buried here without problem on his tourist visa so what a load of rubbish saying you would automatically be shipped home. David enjoyed many happy years in Altinkum on a tourist visa(his choice) and that is why he was happy to be buried here so that is why a "tourist" as you put it would want to be buried here! Once again totally ill informed rumour mongering, Why do you do it?

I was quoting from another forum about the visa run. It is true that no one has yet done a visa run when they allready have the new type stamp so that't still an unknown.

The right to be buried is correct as not related to having a private plot.

Right to be buried uncorrect as our good friend David died in Altinkum last week and was buried near the Temple Apollo on Friday on a Tourist visa without any problems so please stop your rumour mongering and misinforming people.

in a word that's "tosh" it don't make any diference wher you are when the book expires.

pitfalls are
1/ you can no longer be buriesd in Turkey. your remains must be re-patriated (costly)
2/ you can not buy or sell a car. (there is talk that police are getting iffy if you drive one, other than hired, withour residency)
3/ no more reductions in healthcare prices
4/ (from another forum) the £10.00 stamp has changed and is now valid for 90 days in any 180 day period. It could be that this means that you can stay for 90 days within any 180 day period. IE no more visa runs. No one has had the time to try this one out yet.

Quote 1/
I would not worry about dying in Turkey, most travel insurance companies cover you for this, my H.S.B.C. Premier Free Travel insurance covers an amount of upto £7,500 to ship my, or any dependant person travelling on my insurance policy back to the u.k. on death.......I would think long and hard before making your decision whether a RP would really benefit holiday home visitors.....of course persons who has made their permanent home there and have in the past gone to Kos to renew will be forced into RP......but as I say the new visa rules will not really effect me, I would be able to work around it as we are flexible when we leave and come back home.So we will definatly not be going for a RP.
